Jetstar Asia Reopens Direct Flights from Singapore to Medan, Strengthening Air Connectivity and Strategic Partnerships

Deli Serdang, November 1, 2024 – Jetstar Asia proudly celebrates the relaunch of its direct Singapore-Medan route, marking a vital step in reinforcing Southeast Asian air connectivity. The inaugural flight successfully departed from Singapore Changi International Airport (SIN) at 8:15 AM local time, arriving at Kualanamu International Airport (KNO) in Medan at 8:40 AM local time. The return flight to Singapore was scheduled at 9:20 AM, initiating daily services on this route, operated by Jetstar Asia’s Airbus A320 aircraft.

This route reinstatement underscores Jetstar Asia’s commitment to providing safe, reliable, and affordable travel options for passengers. As Singapore stands as a global business and tourism hub, the renewed Singapore-Medan connection enhances collaborative opportunities across nations. Medan, one of Indonesia’s largest cities, offers substantial potential to attract international visitors and bolster local business.

The renewed Singapore-Medan route is expected to drive significant benefits for both nations by enhancing tourism and stimulating local economies. With direct access to Medan, international travelers now have increased opportunities to explore the rich cultural and natural attractions of North Sumatra, contributing to regional growth.

Collaborative Efforts to Ensure Seamless Operations

As part of this renewed partnership, PT Jasa Angkasa Semesta (JAS), Indonesia’s premier airport services provider, plays a vital role in managing Jetstar’s ground handling and cargo handling operations at Kualanamu International Airport. From passenger services, baggage handling, and  cargo handling, JAS’s team ensures a seamless and efficient process for every Jetstar Asia flight. The inaugural flight was celebrated with a water salute ceremony and attended by distinguished guests, including Jetstar Asia CEO John Simeone, Head of Airport Authority Office Region II Medan Bambang Hartato, and Senior Vice President of Commercial at PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi, Abed Nego Azarya Tampubolon.

“We are thrilled to support Jetstar in expanding travel options for both Indonesian and Singaporean passengers, contributing to a smoother travel experience underpinned by operational excellence and passenger satisfaction,” said Patria Bayuaji, General Manager of Ground Handling at JAS.

In addition to strengthening air links, the reopening of this route signifies the renewed strategic collaboration between Jetstar Asia and PT JAS Aero Engineering Services (JAES), a leading Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) provider in Indonesia. Since 2007, JAE has been entrusted with maintaining the operational efficiency and safety of Jetstar Asia’s flights in Indonesia, delivering essential aircraft airworthiness certifications before each departure. Beyond Medan, JAE also supports Jetstar Asia’s operations in major Indonesian cities, including Jakarta, Bali, and Surabaya.

JAES President Director Iman Sinambela expressed his excitement over the expanded route, “This reflects Jetstar Asia’s growth in Indonesia, and we are honored to support its success today. We believe this initiative will bring long-term value to the aviation industry and strengthen air connectivity between our countries.”

Together, Jetstar Asia, JAS, and JAE are paving the way for a new chapter of air travel that bridges communities, fosters economic ties, and expands access to Southeast Asia.
